Walnut Capital eyeing Samson property for project
Friday, May 28, 2004
Walnut Capital, a prominent local development company based in Shadyside, is said to be the prospective buyer eyeing the H. Samson Funeral Home property in Oakland. However, Walnut Capital partners have declined comment on the sale. Last month, Tamara Malone, a spokeswoman for Samson's owner, Cincinnati-based Alderwoods Group, confirmed that a deal to sell the well-known funeral home property is pending. She could not be reached for comment Thursday. The funeral home may be demolished to build either a residential condominium complex or a development of custom-built houses. The 1.77-acre site, at 537 N. Neville St., has an assessed value of $1.26 million and is zoned residential/multifamily. Walnut Capital is a major owner of rental apartments and housing, along with shopping centers and commercial properties throughout the Pittsburgh region.
