Pittsburgh Planning Commission backs big Oakland development proposal with caveats

"After months of controversy, the city Planning Commission Tuesday gave its support to a revised proposal designed to bring hundreds of new apartments and a grocery to part of Oakland. But it did so with reservations.

In a 5-0 vote, the commission recommended a revised zoning proposal to City Council negotiated by Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey and developer Walnut Capital, one that would impact Halket Street and the historic Isaly’s site on the Boulevard of the Allies.

But in doing so, the commission, in response to concerns raised by residents, asked council to take a closer look at the heights that would be allowed on Halket and at the Isaly’s site and the impact they would have on neighboring streets."
