Pittsburgh will gain a new spot for fresh açaí bowls, smoothies and juices this week. Playa Bowls, a national quick service chain with over 300 U.S. locations, will open the doors to a new retail store in Bakery Square on Friday, May 16 at 11 a.m. To celebrate the location’s grand opening, the store will give away a free bowl and branded t-shirt to its first 50 customers.

“Our second location at Bakery Square feels like the perfect fit, and honestly, it’s a space we’ve had our eyes on from day one,” Minnick said in a prepared statement released with his partners Tuesday afternoon. The Bakery Square location will be the second to open in Pittsburgh. The city’s first Playa Bowls, located in the Strip District’s Terminal, opened in August of 2024. Bakery Square and the Terminal are both managed by local residential and commercial property management group Walnut Capital, with the company having taken over day-to-day operations of the latter earlier this month.
