"Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Walnut Capital Developer and community members from Larimer and Homewood met Thursday morning to break ground on a multi-model road project intended to connect the neighborhoods to jobs and amenities in the East End.

The $4.5 million project will be an abandoned railroad that once served as an infrastructure barrier between Black and White communities into a road lined with trees and gardens to connect the neighborhoods to the East End. Thursday marked the start of phase one of the project."
