Pittsburgh’s Penn Avenue tech corridor, known as AI Avenue, is undergoing a transformation aimed at connecting its two anchors: Duolingo in East Liberty and Google at Bakery Square. Local leaders see the area as a focal point for Pittsburgh’s growing AI sector and hope that new development, improved infrastructure, and added amenities will turn what is now a fragmented stretch into a cohesive hub for tech companies, startups, and investors.
Several projects are already in motion to bring this vision to life. Walnut Capital’s expansion of Bakery Square will redevelop the aging Village of Eastside strip mall into a modern mixed-use space, while The Meridian project is adding apartments, restaurants, and a grocery store. Additional investments in lighting, walkability, and storefront improvements will boost connectivity along the corridor, supporting the 20 tech companies already between Duolingo and Google and setting the stage for even more growth in Pittsburgh’s innovation economy.
