"It’s been more than 20 years since Giant Eagle had a grocery in the heart of Oakland. The supermarket chain may now be considering a return engagement.

The O’Hara-based chain appears to be one of the grocers interested in opening a store at the site of the former Quality Inn and Suites at 3401 Boulevard of the Allies, according to sources.

Another possibility is Aldi, they said. And Herky Pollock, a CBRE executive vice president who specializes in retail, said he represents a non-local grocer he declined to name that also has an interest in the location."
